Photoluminescent tape does not degrade simply by being exposed to light, but prolonged direct sun can age the backing and fade printed graphics. Photoluminescent tape storage in a closed carton protects both. The bigger risk is a roll left on a windowsill for months, where heat builds up and the adhesive begins to flow at the edge.
Glow tape shelf life and roll format
Most luminous tapes carry a shelf life of around 12 to 24 months from production, depending on the adhesive. Acrylic systems generally last longer than rubber. Rolls should be stored upright or flat in their cartons, not leaning against a wall, because a deformed roll produces a wavy strip that will not lie flat on a stair nosing.
- Store between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius, below 60 percent humidity
- Keep cartons closed and away from skylights and heaters
- Do not stack beyond the carton compression limit
- Use first in, first out and record the production date
Luminous tape packaging: carton and pallet notes
Luminous tape is often packed in shrink-wrapped rolls or trays, then in master cartons. For export, ask for a moisture barrier liner in humid shipping lanes, and confirm that the pallet is stretch wrapped rather than banded tightly across the rolls. Banding compresses the edges and can leave flat spots that show as marks after installation.
Checking stock before dispatch
Before shipping old stock, charge a sample under consistent light and compare it with a retained reference from the same batch. Check for edge adhesive squeeze, liner release and any discolouration of the pigment layer. If performance has dropped, do not ship it as first-grade material, and adjust the next production quantity to match actual sell-through.
